Dear all,
I have photographed the illustrated bird at the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, just south of Tulum, Mexico, in August 19th, 2022. At the time, I logged this bird as Eastern Wood-Pewee (Contopus virens), which is a passage migrant there, in spite of the difficulty in distinguishing this from the Tropical Pewee (Contopus cinereus), specially for an European observer not familiar with these species. Later I found that Tropical Pewee had been split into Northern Tropical Pewee (Contopus bogotensis), which is resident in the area, for which I am not sure anymore of my original identification.
Are these photos enough to assign this bird to any of these species? If so, how may we distinguish between the referred species?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mário Estevens
