Himalayan owl in Taiwan (1 Viewer)

Hello! I am planning to visit Taiwan early this summer in search of owls. Unfortunately the sightings of Himalayan owl in Taiwan are no longer viewable in ebird. I'd love to hear from birders who can share any locations for this species in Taiwan.

I won't photograph the owls, and will do my best to minimize disturbing them.

Many thanks, Iain

If trusting the person asking, it might have been better to provide the info in personal messages. There is usually a reason that Ebird limits details, and usually it is requests from locals who know what the threat picture is.

It appears ebird restricts Himalayan Owl in Taiwan (and Korea) in the February - August period. Presumably to stop reporting of nest / roost sites with young birds being pestered by excessive attention.

All I shared was info that's freely available on the internet, and with that info (i.e. no roosting / breeding sites shared in detail), one still has to do the (sometimes hard) work to find one at night, something Ian will very likely do without giving up easily. So I reckon the owl is safe bar seeing Ian at night which could freak the owl out :D

ps: All strix are fairly common / not endangered, it's just that some people have a stupid fixation with owls and would harass them at roosting / breeding sites, but with the info provided, that's not going to happen here.
