How to see Leach's Petrel (4 Viewers)

I'm packing up now, light is bad and I've not eaten anything since last night. Will look 1st light, then again in a more rigorous was from about 9:30

Cheers Jane. I'm on foot so I think il probably get the train to Leasowe and walk down to the gunsite from the station probably getting there by 9 ish. I think that's probably a better idea than heading to New Brighton and being stuck there but please correct me if I'm wrong!

The advantage of New Brighton is there is shelter. Whereas Leasowe is totally open to the elements. Hoylake (where Jane is) is another good option with plenty of shelter only down side is viewing is quite low.

Cheers
Jason

I promise petrels today. Blown steadily all night with squalls. I've got plenty of height Jason.

There is a windbreak on the seawall near Leasowe Lighthouse.

7 Leach's now, but a lot more sightings - birds going back and forth. Hopefully everyone who has tried has connected.

The terns have cleared out here, whichis bad news for the LTS.

Leach's are still re-orientating north in the North Sea in small numbers. Looking at the weather forecast some of these and others might be making an appearance this weekend - what do you think Jane?

What do you think about the chances of a few sea birds this weekend? It's a 9m tide at midday Saturday, with the met office forecasting 24mph west north westerly, gusting to 42mph. Could the consolation prize for the peep watchers be a few Leach's Petrels, or is the direction not quite right, and the wind not been blowing long enough by Saturday?

would you tell me where you seawatch from please ? the best place for parking ,disabled access aswell if possible .

You can sea watch from your car at the Gunsite (see the 1st post in this thread) Its not really wind enough yet though and the wind is a little to the south of west, which isn't great for here. Lancashire might be better.

Forecast: Westerly or northwesterly, backing southwesterly later in south, 5 to 7, decreasing 4 at times later.
