Hunting resumes in Cyprus (1 Viewer)

The intrusive sounds of gunfire were an obvious indication that the hunters were out again today. Hadn't realised before we moved here that Cyprus is such a corrupt country and the hunting lobby still manages to get it's own way nearly all of the time. I can see land from our garden which has 'Nature reserve, no hunting' signs all over but the hunters go unpoliced and stroll around unfettered on this land.

In very early spring, I was able to see two hunters, firing at passerines in a small, leafless vineyard on this same land, there is no genuine will to stop it and even less to police it.

Unfortunately you’d probably have more chance finding Ivory-billed Woodpecker than finding a PC walking the streets, let alone attending a domestic “break- in”…..car theft from outside your house…..anti-social raves into the early hours that can wake people within a mile radius with literally over a hundred people phoning up to complain.

However doing eighty mph + early on a Sunday morning on an “empty dual carriageway” will bring the full weight of the law down on your head….and your peeved at the thousands of birds regularly trapped on a British sovereign base in Cyprus…. again…more chance of divine intervention sad but true….

Rant over!
