Hi - We will be having a family holiday at the end of May staying in the village of Nebo, near Llanwrst. I know the major bird watching sites in the area but wonder if there are any local spots that would be good for woodland species, particularly Redstart and Pied Flycatcher? If information is sensitive, please PM.
Thanks in anticipation :t:

Redstart are fairly common throughout the area but Aber Valley, inland from Llanfairfechan, is pretty good ( and you often get Red Kite and Chough towards the top end ) while Clogwyn, Nantmor usually has good numbers of all 3 of the 'western oakwood' specialists, Redstart, Pied Flycatcher and Wood Warbler.

Coed Hafod near Llanrwst has those 2 plus Wood Warbler. Ugly House (Ty Hyll) between Betws and Capel also.
Basically, pick any valley in the area and find some trees!
Enjoy yr hol.

I'm on holiday in Colwyn Bay next week and have been researching the same birds!...

Pensychnant nature reserve near Conwy is good for Pied Flycatcher and cuckoo - (I've been there before.) You can park nearby on the Synchnant Pass somewhere apparently for the cuckoo if you don't want to go into the reserve. http://binged.it/10Px9LM

Bod Petryal (or Petrual) car park in the Clocaenog Forest for wood warbler, pied fly, and redsart. http://binged.it/16Rs6CQ

I'm gonna try these two churchyards for hawfinch although it's probably not the easiest time to see them...

Good luck - might see you about!

Many thanks Damian. Due to an injury at work, my plans have had to be revised so I may not get to all of the sites. Still hoping though! Enjoy your break and I hope you get your targets.

Excellent images on your flickr!
