Happy New Year one and all

There I was sat sittin' and looking at the ice on the water at Brandon Marsh this lunch time longing for a view of kingfisher to really get my 2010 list off to a good start. Then I thought, "Hang on a mo, with that ice on the water how will a kingfisher feed?" So then ...

My question is, what do kigfisher eat when they can't get to their normal food becuase of Iced-up water courses?

Many move to the coast.

......and long before it freezes up.

It's very noticeable here (near the coast) how few we see in summer (unless we go inland) but in winter it would be unusual not to see them on a walk along the sea wall.

Many thanks to you all for your replies. I suppose most of them are common sense really, apart from the beatles one that is ;-))) But thanks anyway.
