This morning I saw a male lesser goldfinch feeding another bird. I couldn't tell if the other bird was a female or a juvenile, but it was begging by flicking it's tail and fluttering it's wings. There was another bird close by also begging and trying to get the attention of the male but I didn't see it get fed.
So, I thought goldfinches breed in late summer. Is this courting behavior or do Lesser Goldfinches breed earlier and these are babies/fledglings?
