Mohair nest bundle. (1 Viewer)

Hi! I’m new here and first post. A couple of years ago my mother bought me a mohair nest bundle for the birds to pick strands of hair to build nests. I have had this near the other feeders, and for two seasons now nothing has touched it. It has become very clear to me that I need to relocate away from their food. Any suggestions?

Hi Huntski and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I've not heard of these before... do you have it out all the year, as they'd only be interested in nest building in the spring? I'd think it would be better hung in a tree away from the feeders.

Perhaps posting in our Garden Birds forum would get you more advice.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Thank you Delia! Yes, I have had it out all year for about 15 months now and it’s not had any activity. For sure will move it away from their food. Won‘t some birds want to use warm hair strands like that for winter nesting?

Welcome to BirdForum. I hope you enjoy your visits.

Birds don’t tend to build nests during the winter. As it’s been out for so long, it would be a good idea to check it’s not gone mouldy or deteriorated.
