But what's hard to understand, and I know that's the whole point of the previous post, is why would you sell the bino that you said you like more, and buy again the one that you said you hate. I guess a possible explanation is Swaro's CS and also the fact that their reselling value is typically higher.

The big reason is the EDG has been discontinued for at least five years now. You can't get any part's for it from Nikon. I couldn't even get a new strap. If you drop it or damage it in anyway it is basically done. Nikon has no more EDG's to replace it with. The 8x32 EL has more glare than the EDG but it is very good in many other way's. For example, I like the smaller size and weight and for me the ergonomic's are better. I also like the bigger FOV and the sharp edges. I really like Swaro's CS and as you say Swaro's have the best resale of any binocular's. I also got it new for $1550.00 on an auction on Ebay so it was a good deal. I will probably pick up a Swaro NL 8x42 to complement it when they are released in September.

Lol! :-O But I like my wrinkles! I'd like a silicum frontal lobe connection which tells me which bird I see correctly every time, even the vaguest of glimps and flybys. Sure would like that for sounds too; ai hearing aids!

I knocked together a head rest today to see what we can expect from the head rest on the NL. I fitted it to an SLC 15x56 and a Vortex Razor 10x42.

The added stabilization wasn't mind-blowing to be honest and about the same as techniques people use like a finger pressed against your forehead. So a slightly noticeable improvement, but certainly nothing like as good as powered image stabilized binoculars. The image is still shaky, just in a slightly different way that is a little less distracting.

So, I wouldn't get too excited about the head rest as the next big thing in stabilization. However after a couple of goes and with improved technique and getting used to the head support I think you are capable of holding the binoculars a little steadier and that encourages you to focus on things slightly longer.

Regarding denco … I actually think we need a separate thread for "discussion" about this guy. Congratulations denco, you know you've achieved a certain level of fame (or infamy) when this many folks are talking about you...

Maybe they had better designed a nose rest, as with glasses. With some supports on/behind the ears for added stability. Just half joking; I think it would offer more stability than just something against the forehead, not everyone has the same protruding brow. This thing just looks to gimmicky to me...although you'd expect they thoroughly tested it before putting it on the market...?! Maybe it will be a surprising improvent, quite hard to wait and read the experiences, or test it myself.

Have you read this thread from the start and subsequently LGM? You mentioned it back in your post #147 (ref. hunters and rifle owners) and it has been discussed at length since then.

I was about to say "I see our US friends (for the most part) continue to struggle with the concept of irony as humour" but note you have no such excuse!

But perhaps I simply lack a suitable number BF posts to be truly welcomed to the fold?

If it helps I do own a pair of funky vintage Zeiss bins and have used them in anger on Loch Arkaig with what was then FCS so this must count for something?

It might help when viewing near zenith at night, or significantly above the horizon, but that is about it IMO.

Very impressive!
Especially as all these people had to take a boat or a plane to get there. Helps explain why the UK is still the world's leading birding community.

The cost for the support is about the same for a tripod mount for an SLC, I suppose if one gets the 12X42 they could try it before actually making a purchase.
