New Product Introduction Today From Swarovski ? (4 Viewers)

I wonder if Swarovski plans to offer an 'upgrade' program to allow users to trade-in their old EL/SLC to cut the price of the NL? That would make them more tempting for sure.

They did that when they came out with the Swarovsions didn't they? That would be a good idea.

You have to see that it the right way.
The introduction of the SV in 2009 was delayed for a year because of some technical issues (most production models didn't came through the QC) so the customer who bought the EL could trade it in for an SV when that one came out a year later. Swarovski compensated the dealers.

I don't see any reason for Swarovski to do anything like that since there will be a waiting list after the pré order batch. Demand is higher than production:t:

Hi Jan,
I certainly don't think Swarovski will 'have' to do it, I just wondered if they would do so to persuade users such as myself to 'upgrade'. I otherwise will have no interest despite what improvements the NL makes over the EL FP.

Hi Justin,

I'm pretty sure (can only speak for my self) that Swaro won't go that route.
For those things the dealers will have to give you that "service".
As an example, we provide the customer the option to sell us his old Swaro against the new price of its production year and the currency is a voucher to be used in our shop for everything except optics.
For example a 10x50SV will do between 1.500,00 and 1.750,00 trade in price or more than 2.500,00 euro's in a voucher.

Thank you for your insight from the retail perspective, Jan. I do believe Eagle Optics offered a similar 'service' when either the SV EL or SV FP was released.
I am certainly interested in the NL and given my proclivity to test optics I wouldn't be surprised to end up owing an NL at some point, but it would be impossible for me to justify spending approx. 3K to 'upgrade' from what is essentially a perfect representation of an 8.5x magnified view of what I see with my eyes.

I like that 2500 euro's in a voucher. What else do you sell besides optics?

I don't know I think the improved micro contrast, resolution, bigger FOV, smoother and better located focuser, better forward balance, better glare control, more stable view with the head rest and improved ergonomics with the tapered tubes would be enough justification. This is the biggest upgrade Swarovski has made in 10 years. Even bigger than the Swarovisons. Pre-order the new NL at 10% off and sell your EL's on Ebay for about $1700.00 making sure you point out they have the closer focus and you would only have $1K in the new NL and you would have the latest and the greatest. Makes perfect sense to me!

The original design left the focus mechanism little room for placement of linkage, and I would gander that many of the repairs for the SVs going in for service was for the focus. I had an issue with one (focus needed service) but one can imagine a hard core user moving that focus daily for hours, it will need service. The diopter design is fine as it is, but the focus could be another story.

Jan, or anyone else with experience of large numbers of Swarovskis - does this reflect reality?

Repair reason number one by far is the bin put on the roof of the car after the hike, get the gear into the car and drive away.......:eek!::eek!:
Second are the bins which are abused during Safari's when the lenses got cleaned without proper brushingB :)
Third are the bins that come back because of mailfunctioning of the view caused by a. diopter is complete at the end of - or + and b. the lock is on so the diopter isn't working(?). RFM is something most people don't do:cat:
After that it is the normal tear and wear of the bin. Something all brands suffer from. Also those who are supposed to be built like a tank, can be driven over by a car or can handle a blast from a shotgun:smoke::smoke:

What sells most comes back most, so yeah we see more Swarovski's coming back compared to other brands but all brands have the same issues. Delaminating armor and focus problems are nr. 1 and 2 in that matter.

Has anybody on the forum looked through a pair yet...
I'll try and get hold of a pair in September and do a review..
But if they have an Absam ring I won't be buying them sadly. The Absam ring in my 8x32 SV's still annoys me.
Question...
Is it possible to have the massive FOV of the NL's without an Absam ring being present...?

Cheers Tim

Absam ring, RB, AMD, and poor glare resistance are possible issues that NL might have inherited from the SV/FP, however none of the reviewers so far have found any of these problems. Of course more testing is needed.

"Seek and ye shall find"....... Mathew 7.7

Not everyone see's this distortion in general viewing, or is even aware of it's existence. It won't be an issue to the majority of owners, if indeed it is reported as being present by some users / testers. It seems such a pity for me that some users are so preoccupied or clouded by such an occurrence that it takes over their enjoyment of using a high end instrument, leaving all the positives behind.

I've read all the BF " First quick impressions " here on BF and other social media sites which are all favourable.

This thread will reach 1000 posts before the first NLs hit the streets, impressive. Good luck Tim.

Thanks Pat....

It's both a blessing and a curse to have 20/30 vision so my eyes are very sharp and notice even minor discrepancies in image softness...

I'll review them as soon as I can get my hands on a pair...

Cheers
Tim

I found out I had 20/30 vision in middle school. They didn't call it a blessing, but did say "you need glasses, kid."
