New Retrovid 7x35 (1 Viewer)

My question, above, was merely that if someone ELSE felt that they could pocket a 7x35 Retro, I didn't see why they couldn't also pocket a UVHD+ 8x32, as well.
They are both NOT pocketable....they were not designed with that in mind while the 8x20's on the other hand are. But then again with the 8x20's you have essentially a 'toy-like' feel which is something I am not in favor of on a basis outside of a 'fun hike with the wife' and not true birding. The 8x32 or 7x35's offer more bulk, which is something I think one needs and are truly birding bins. jim

Today I went boating on the Mekong with the Retrovid 7x35. Walking to and from the river, i put it in the pocket of my shorts. The Retrovid fits my pocket well and easily. Can say that I hid it well. I don't think any modern 8x32 can do that.
Hey JIM! See Post #223. That's what I have been referring to.

Apparently, some people find 7x35 Retrovid pocketable. And, it's probably likely that galazie1 could put a UVHD+ 8x32 in the same pocket where he stuffed that Retrovid.

I don't think of them as pocket binoculars, myself. ;)

But they actually are easily pocketable for large pant pockets, as seen in pictures of the 7x35 earlier in the thread, and on a regular basis in my jacket pockets with my 8x32 Ultravid or Trinovids.

No toy-like feel with the 8x20 either, although definitely not as substantial as what you're used to carrying.

I really enjoyed the Retrovid 7x35. Loved most about them and wearing glasses was not a problem at all. I did exchange them for a pair of Ultravid 7x42 which unfortunately had very poor focusing and despite a return trip to Leica they came back as bad, or even worse. The dealership handled it very well and offered a full refund. I ended up exchanging for the Pure NL 8x32 which I am glad I did today.

A friend has the Ultravid 8x32 HD Plus, I had the Retrovid 7x35 and Ultravid HD Plus 7x42 and I could easily live with the Retrovid 7x35.
One caveat was that the Retrovid samples in store all had very stiff focusers, all but one sample, which was perfect. Ultravid 8x32 HD plus are great compact binoculars and very rugged but for me and my glasses I preferred both the 7x35 and 7x42 over the 8x32.

I have been birding in very cold conditions lately and for that reason the Retrovid 7x35 would be less than ideal in use, not only for the colder grip but also because it simply has a poor focuser for gloved hands, the ribs are too small so the gloved finger slips until you apply so much pressure turning it adversely affects your viewing. Even with the "perfect" focuser on my sample of the 7x35 it was very poor with windstopper gloves on and very cold without. No such problems with the Ultravids for me.
Yep, i have both Leica UVHD 7x42 and Leitz Trinovid 7x35 and for me the small Leitz is perfect for hiking in the summer but in wintertime it doesn’t work for me. I also own a UVHD 8x32 and i think (for me) as a compact and rugged allrounder its difficult to beat.

For me also 7x35 and 8x32 are very pocketable in cargo pants or field coat.

I've got all three of those and they're among my favorites, but the one that I had in my pocket for a very long time was the 8x20 Ultravid, and now I'm carrying one again, but now in a case on my belt. Great to see that I somehow happened onto a very versatile selection shared by others too.

I am not sure why you would want them pocketable but perhaps that is just my thinking from how I 'bird'....if I bird, I want the bins out so I can see birds. But I guess if you have big pants or coat pockets etc than go ahead and pocket them:)
