Is anyone using the Nikon 7466 zoom at 25-57 x on the ED82 ?

Also is the 30x DS on the ED82 a good lense for non spectacle wearers ?

I'm using the DS30x eyepiece which has a wide FOV. The rubber eyecup supplied with the eyepiece is for non-spectacle users but I've been using this eyepiece for many years without the rubber eyecup too :king: even though I'm not using any glass.

And I'm not sure about the 25-57x zoom eyepiece on ED82. I have the MC II 25-75x zoom eyepiece only ;)

I think Alexis Powell or mooreorless is using one.

The 25-57x works fine but I've never done a close comparison with the MC II 25-75x,
which is what I use for high power on my 78ED.

Hi,

I used to use ED82 with 30x Ds with specs on and had no probelm with it. Very nice combination.
I couldn't quite see the whole fov with my specs on but near enough all of it.

best wishes,
Martin.

I have both of these eyepieces but I use them on a close out 20-45x60mm Non Ed Fieldscope. The close out was the "smaller" eyepiece Fieldscope. I bought the "bigger" zoom on Ebay for a very cheap price. I tried to compare them and they are so close I couldn't say there was a clear winner, but the 20x60[25-75 in the 82mm] was usable up to 60x in this 60mm Fieldscope , it started to get dim at 60x. The "smaller" 20x45 has roll down eyecups and was a little better for ER using my glasses than the push down type in the "bigger" eyepiece, but both of these should be used at low power if you wear glasses and want to see the whole field.BTW I don't wear my glasses when using any optics unless I have to. I almost forgot I have a long two row firewood stack with space between the rows and skids with metal roofing on top and set a resolution target in the shadows between the rows and could see one element lower with the MC II 20-60x[25-75x] so I guess you could say that eyepiece is the winner. I would get rid of the smaller eyepiece before the higher power one. I thought sometime to get a Nikon 50 ED some day and use the smaller eyepiece.

I did do a resolution test in the open with the higher power eyepiece and the reading was 2.1 arcsec and to tell the truth I forget what it was with the 45x max. eyepiece. I hope this helps some.

.I've just purchased an ED82 with the 30W eyepiece and can't decide on which of the zoom eyepieces to buy . I notice the 25x75 has a small viewing lense compared with the older zoom . Is it comfortable to use ?

I don't recall the old 25-57x zoom having appreciably bigger eyelens than the later 25-75x zoom versions, and I believe the stated fields-of-view at 25x are identical. I have used all three zooms, first in the ED 78 A and the latest version on the ED 82 A. None of the Nikon zooms have very good eye-relief and they all have comparatively narrow fields. The 25-57x has noticeable inferior multicoatings, so brightness and especially contrast suffer some in comparison with the newer, wider-range zooms. Differences between the two versions of the 25-75x zoom are much less obvious, but the latest version is optically slightly better, with improved edge resolution and very slightly better brightness and contrast due to updated coatings. As a complement to your 30x, I'd certainly recommend a 25-75x over the 25-57.

I agree with Steve here on the Fieldscope eyepieces, I have the same setup with the FS III and it came with the 20-45 Zoom eyepiece. I also obtained the MC II 20-60 Zoom, and I do prefer it, it seems a bit brighter and the FOV seems wider at various places. One difference may be it is fully multicoated, and I am not sure about the other.

I like the FS III, 60mm (non-ed) and with this lens I am happy. I do not spend as much time using the scope as bins, so for me this scope works well.

i know sugs you have already bought your 30x eye piece. Was it the ds??

If it was then what i do on mine is take the rubber cover off and push it back on about half way , i find this acts perfectly like the twist cup on my zoom and keeps my eye just the right distance away, and prevents kidney beaning etc.

Regards. Mark.

Hi, it's the 30WA with the twist up eyecup. I've now taken the plunge and ordered a 25-75 zoom .

Hi Jerry, I am very glad you like the non ED 60mm Fieldscope ok.:t: I would still like to compare mine to a good sample ED 60mm Fieldscope and the Nikon 50ED Fieldscope some day. Or buy a 50ED.;) BTW the Lost Creek Shoe Shop doesn't carry the Nikon 50ED spotter, I asked why and he said because of being only 50mm and didn't think hunter's would be interested.;)
