Old Birder, New to Bird Forum (1 Viewer)

I have been a birder since I was a teenager, learning from my parents and a professional naturalist in the Poconos plateau. I count on 3 county bird counts (May, Fall, mid-winter) in Carroll County, MD each year. I worked on all three of Maryland's Breed Bird Atlas projects, and on the last Atlas for Pennsylvania in several Pocono area blocks. I need to learn warbler songs much better, and learn fall warbler plumages better, and learn gull plumages, too.
I am retired, with a PhD in organic chemistry from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Hazardous chemical waste site remediation and chemical warfare agent measurement and destruction were my specialties.

Hi Bill, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I think you will find us a friendly and helpful group.

Hi Bill and a warm welcome from me too.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.

Hi Delia:
On the Carroll County May Count on 10 May, I saw or (mostly) heard 69 species. My best birds were Bald Eagle, Northern Harrier, Yellow-breasted Chat, and Black-throated Blue Warbler.

Very nice indeed. I love watching harriers hunting; they're so elegant and agile, aren't they.
