Old kit c/w renewed enthusiasm? (1 Viewer)

It's many years since I tried digiscoping, bought all the kit but had mixed results and resented carrying all the kit as well as the associated and well-documented frustrations.

Now I've been gathering my kit and although not new it is all well cared for and in excellent working order. My scope of choice (I own several) would be the Nikon ED78 as although the ED50 is smaller and lighter, it might not offer sufficient light-gathering capability than the 78 - which is my birding scope most of the time.

I also have a Coolpix 4500 and a couple of spare batteries - again all in great order. The eyepieces I possess inc. 25-75 zoom (no good for scoping I gather) but a couple of wide DS Fieldscope. 30x and 75x - I understand the latter is better for eagle-watching than digiscoping:t:

Thanks for bearing with me... back in the day, I have the Eagle Eye adaptor and all sorts of shenanigans. Now, if I read it correctly, The Nikon FSA 1,2&3 kit for approx £50 will enable me to "marry" CP4500, 30x eyepiece and ED78 scope. Is it that straightforward or have I missed something.

I don't really need another scope or camera, (but always happy to collect more optics) and have tried the DSLR route, but prefer, if I have a choice to take scope out rather than DSLR and 170-500 lens. - Obviously the 4500 and a few FSA adaptors are easily fitted in the Scopac. Just trying to renew enthusiasm and utilise existing kit while trying not to be a packhorse - I'm sure you've all tried the same balancing act;)

I hope it all made sense!

Steve,
Welcome back into the digiscoping "fold" . I still have my 4500 and get it out fondly sometimes but technology has moved on and it's now a pain to use (relatively) The main problem with it for me is the very small , dim screen. If you don't mind spending some money have a look at the P5100 or P6000. There are some threads here on both cameras. Much easier to use so less frustrations and more "keepers".

Thanks Neil - just thought I'd use existing gear, but never need a second invitation to spend or add to the collection :t:
