Only one Mourning Dove tending to baby doves (1 Viewer)

Hello - I have a mourning dove nest atop a ledge under the roof of my front porch. Two babies have hatched and are probably about one week old. I’ve been watching the nest, and during incubation the parent doves took turns - one during the day (which I understand is probably the dad) and the other at night (likely the mother). But now, with the babies a week old, I only see the one dove during the day taking care of them. This “day” parent is definitely feeding the babies, because I’ve seen it. But there seems to be no parent tending to the babies at night. They seem to be left completely alone. Is this normal, or has something possibly happened to the “night watch” parent?

Hi THelly and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. From some information I've read, I understand that this may be quite normal behaviour for this age. They will likely fledge during the coming week.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.
