Baby mourning dove force fledged (1 Viewer)

I have two new baby mourning doves that have a nest on my roof gutter. Today I went to check on them and i startled them and they both jumped out. One is a little over a week old and has a nice tail feather but the second is just 6-7 days and still has baby hair only. They both jumped to spots close by on my roof. They are each just a few feet from their nest. But they are also sitting prey. Will they go back to their nest? Will their parent get them back in the nest? It is going to storm soon here. Hi, welcome to the forum on behalf of the staff and moderators. I am really unsure as to what will happen. They usually leave the nest at about 2 weeks old. If you can get them back into the nest that would be good. And then the best thing is to not go near the nest until after they have fledged.

Update. Mom and Dad have both come to check things out. They are both rightfully upset. I hope they get the babies back in the nest. Especially the youngest who still has baby hair and no feathers.

Welcome to Birdforum. It is best not to go anywhere near nests when there are eggs or chicks as it can cause the parents to abandon the nest or frighten the chicks.

They never went back to the nest. One is now on the opposite side of the house on the ground in a weeded rock garden and I have not seen the other in 2 days. The one in the rock garden is just sitting there for hours.
