Hi all, I am looking for some new binoculars for my husbands 50th birthday, and have a budget of £200 - £300 but could perhaps spend more if it was worth it (but obviously don't want to spend extra for the sake of it, so if there are a pair worth £100 that are just as good then that would be preferable). He would like Opticron 10x42s. I have no technical knowledge of binoculars and therefore have no idea what the difference is between the various models. Can anyone recommend what model would give the best quality image, and/or best value for money? Thanks, Anne

Hi Anne and welcome. What is your husband planning to use the binoculars for - general use, birding, astronomy? A bit more info would help to better target recommendations. Why is he particularly set on Opticron? There are other marques which may suit him better.

Suggest you look at a retailer who sells opticron and see what is available in your price range.
Use a specialist binocular retailer & you'll get good advice and professional service (e.g. In Focus, https://www.at-infocus.co.uk/ or Focus Optics https://focusopticsltd.co.uk/ or Cley Spy https://www.cleyspy.co.uk/ etc). Highly likely they would do a price match against online prices.
I would say that Opticron is a good reliable brand and generally good value for money at what ever price point you choose.
Yes there are other brands but if that is what your husband wants then I'd go with that rather than extensive testing, comparisons etc etc. At some point he may want to upgrade to something significantly better but by that time he would know better what he wants

Hi, I would imagine he would happily use them for all three but I can't ask him otherwise I'd give the game away. He's been recommended Opticron by other people. Thanks for your help.

You are welcome. I had a pair of Opticron 10x42 BGA VHD which I was super happy with. They cost me £450, bit less these days. Did me really well until I upgraded a couple of years later.
Perhaps you could give him a birthday card with a gift certificate or iou for a pair of Opticrons and he could visit a dealer and decide what he likes best. If you prefer to give him the actual glasses then I concur the Imagic would be great if within your budget (not sure what they are closing them out for). Otherwise the Natura would be a good one. Made in Japan with a locking diopter. Lucky guy!
