Hi,

I'm new to birding and have been using a Opticron monocular for the last year and I'm wanting to upgrade to binoculars and read good things about the Opticron Explorer WA ED-R 8x32 Binoculars. Just wanted to get your views as the Opticron monocular as been really good.

Cheers,
Karl

I have the Explorer WA ED-R 8x32 and think at its price point it's a good binocular. There's no noticeable CA and I like the small size and light weight. The first pair I received was defective but the replacement is fine. I also bought the Opticron DBA VHD+ 8x42 monocular recently, but it had a dark ring in the view and I returned it. Both the binocular and the monocular were bought online, so I recommend trying before you buy if possible.

Thanks for your reply, There's a shop not far from me that stock Opticron so will be going down and giving them a try. They stock Viking and the Viking Merlin ED was another option I was looking at

I have a pair of Opticron Oregon 8x42's that are IMHO a very good value for the money. They are clear and bright and have good eye relief, but I didn't care for the 8x32 and 8x25 versions. The 8x32 had too much glare and not enough eye relief and the 8x25 doesn't have the Oasis coatings. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks ArchStanton, I'm a glasses wearer so good eye relief is key for me, looking forward to checking them out this weekend

I'd be interested to hearing back from you regarding your impressions of Oregons. If the retailer has the Opticron Aurora 8x42's in stock, I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on these higher end binoculars as well. I'm still waiting for an optics retailer to stock these binoculars in my area. Cheers!

Not a problem at all, will let you know!
