Hi - Can somebody who has the little Curio 7x21, measure the ocular lens diameter, please. It would be very interesting spec. A photo with the scale would be very nice. Ocular lens diameter is not very common to advertise by binocular brands, but I do have seen it on Opticron's homepage under "technical specs".

I make the diameter 17mm. Photo taking failed but hopefully someone with better skills than me will be along with a picture shortly.

I always thought it seemed brighter than just 3mm....

I assumed that Yellow hammer wanted the diamter of the eyepiece lens rather than the objective. I'm not sure that is in the listed data?

We did not measure the diameter of the eyepiece lens, so if that is what was wanted: I measured 10 seconds ago a value of 16,83 mm.

Hi! Yes now I am very pleased! 16,83mm for the Curio.

I have order the Eschenbach Club 8x20. I Will make a small review in some days.

The difference between the Ultravid and the Trinovid is that in addition to the higher degree of Leica lens multi-coating, the Ultravids also have a highly reflective prism/mirror coating. Side by side, the Ultravids will be a bit brighter with more contrast, which is especially noticeable when viewing something against bright backgrounds. The Ultravid also has a much better focus wheel. I'm not positive, but I believe the UV is more waterproof and is nitrogen filled.

HDC multicoating on the TV vs. HDC multicoating, AquaDura coating on outer lens on the UV.

That's about the only differences.

So then I veered towards “smal 8x30” which (as you know) is all the rage these days, thinking I would prefer the handling as a light weight backup option. But, now that I have a Traveler 8x32, it really strikes me that these tiny-30 class is not that much more ergonomic than the Zeiss. In addition to the Opticron I’ve owned the M7 8x30, and the Swaro 8x30, they are all just a wee bit too small and slender for me to wrap my mitts around and feel totally comfortable using them for hours.

While I tend to agree with eitanaltman's take on 30s handling potentials, the more valuable comment may be "all the rage these days." If you spend more than 4 months here, you may notice that all the rage from a forum point of view is just really something new to talk about. Without new introductions, the activity in various individual brand's postings grow quiet. Every time a new and improved, is announced posting activity increases. Whether there's any correlation between that and actual sales of whatever the object is, from the manufacturers point of view remains to be seen (or reported).

I recommend them, a solid unfussy design well armored and cheap enough so one is not afraid to use it - I own a Zeiss VP 8x25 and that is not a binocular designed for the real world although the view is in a different class from the Trinovid.

Since I don't wear glasses, I didn't realize they were easier to use for some, but I really do like my older Leitz models too.

I just finished using a Zeiss VP 8x25 for a couple of weeks and thought it seemed like a very nice binocular. What shortcomings does it have for you?

The diopter knob needs to be protected.
Did you notice how incredibly sharp they are?

Great find. Thanks for the link. They look like a great option for an inexpensive, ultra small, wide FOV, 3mm EP, ultra CF pocket. If they had 14mm ER, I would have one on the way to me now.

The diopter knob needs to be protected. Did you notice how incredibly sharp they are?

I guess that's the same with my old Leitz 6x24, where the diopter adjuster is exposed and hence, my favorite diopter adjusters are the ones on my larger Ultravids, where they're both easy to adjust, and lockable too. Then there's the graceful manner in which they made it just a little more effort, but very well protected and not at all difficult on the little Curio, which is actually in all ways, just a masterpiece in miniature excellence.

By sharp I assume you mean the view, and yes, I was thoroughly impressed and will end up with a VP 8x25 of my own eventually. Now I finally understand why they have such an expansive fan base, and why so many think them the ideal balance of performance minus the bulk and weight.
