Question about Red Bellied Woodpeckers (1 Viewer)

I live in Central NJ and we have been fortunate enough to have a male and a female visit our feeders daily and now there is another woodpecker that looks just like a Red Bellied Woodpecker but he/she has no red on their head. Could this be a young one, how long does it take before they obtain the colors. It doesn't seem smaller than the others so I wasn't sure.

Good call, MJG!

Certainly an immature Red-belly. Not sure when the plumage changes, though! I'm sure an expert will be along in short order....!

Seems much more mature than that one which is what made me question if it was. I figured it would have the red head. What a sweet picture that is, poor little guy.

Hmm....!
Anything like these pics (courtesy of google)?
