Here is my just compiled Quick-Find Index to the Lynx Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World. As outlined in previous posts on similar bird lists, it is a compilation based on my personal needs. But I am again posting it here for anybody to use freely if one wants to do so. And as a Word file, it can easily be adapted to personal preferences.
I have also added a pdf version for those who do not feel like opening a Word file.
I have included one German name: Paarhufer. The corresponding English or scientific name has apparently disappeared from science. I find it more than a bit odd to now find Whales and Giraffes (to just name two) lumped in a common group. As far as I'm concerned, this is just another example how science does not care about the basic needs of non-specialists. An old gripe of mine, I'm afraid.
Volumes 1 and 2 are obviously not grouped by any major systematic concerns, but rather by practical considerations for nicely manageable volumes. That follows similar priorities with the original handbook volumes. And my "Paarhufer" subgroup fits nicely into this philosophy, I think.
