QUICK-FIND INDEX to HMW Mammal Checklist (1 Viewer)

Here is my just compiled Quick-Find Index to the Lynx Illustrated Checklist of the Mammals of the World. As outlined in previous posts on similar bird lists, it is a compilation based on my personal needs. But I am again posting it here for anybody to use freely if one wants to do so. And as a Word file, it can easily be adapted to personal preferences.

I have also added a pdf version for those who do not feel like opening a Word file.

I have included one German name: Paarhufer. The corresponding English or scientific name has apparently disappeared from science. I find it more than a bit odd to now find Whales and Giraffes (to just name two) lumped in a common group. As far as I'm concerned, this is just another example how science does not care about the basic needs of non-specialists. An old gripe of mine, I'm afraid.

Volumes 1 and 2 are obviously not grouped by any major systematic concerns, but rather by practical considerations for nicely manageable volumes. That follows similar priorities with the original handbook volumes. And my "Paarhufer" subgroup fits nicely into this philosophy, I think. ;)

Thanks Robert, very useful,
did you do one for the entire HBW set, I've searched the forums and can't see one?

Do you mean the ones for the two volumes of the corresponding two volumes of the Birds?

I have none for the 17 volumes of the original HBW series.

The list for Volume 2 of the birds' checklist is here: (post #101)

I could post a pdf version as well if needed.

The list for volume 1 is here:

Thanks Robert,
I had meant the 17 volumes, I already downloaded the one for the two volumes.

That would mean quite an effort, doing those 17 volumes. I don't use them that much to make it look worthwhile, though.

But then again, it might be a project in the future, just need to think about it a bit more. It's been rather often that I needed to get out several volumes before I hit the correct one. Volume 17 might help, though, but I virtually never consult that one.
