Robin with broken leg (1 Viewer)

HI,
I would appreciate any help anyone could give regarding possibly capturing and treating a robin with a dangling (right I think) leg. It is clearly useless. He can fly, and when he sits, he uses his wing to prop himself up.

He has been seen for two days now, in my cherry tree in the front yard. He will let me approach to about 5-6 feet, then he flies a short distance, but he always comes back to the tree.

I have put some wild bird food out, as well as some water. It has been below freezing for about 3 days and nights now, so he must be thirsty. My concern is that the leg will get infected or that he will freeze. I sat a dog carrier under the tree so he could get used to it.

I hope to lure him into it within the next couple days...?

Any help is appreciated. I am south of Seattle, WA in the US.

Hello there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum

I'm afraid there is not going to be a way for you to catch the Robin as it will continue to fly off every time you make a move. This is one of nature's cruel moments but nature nonetheless.

On the bright side, I have seen one legged birds survive quite well. Try to keep as much food with easy access and a shallow dish of water in a spot where you see it often.

Please keep us posted.
