Rode VideoMic Go II (Go2) advice (1 Viewer)

Looking for some advice. Mic was purchased as a dual use desk mic and better quality mic for my canon r6 mk2 but i am now attempting to use it as a primary mic for bird songs/calls. I learned a bit about the sensitivities, self noise, gain adjustments, low frequency ambient sound etc and practiced twice now with rode central app as a gain controller. I need to find a quiet area and day with stillness to better test it as both times where in areas with highway and ambient noise.

My question is pretty simple though, what results can I reasonably expect even with the best techniques, practices and environmental circumstances? The bird in the attached recording was about 15-20ft away, light wind wasn't breezing, gain about 15-20%, but highways are within a mile. The mic has self noise at least when i've tested in my quiet room and i've heard cases of bad wiring needing to be re-soldered. So thats not inspiring.

Is this an "is what it is" type of situation or can better practices, techniques and environment actually get a "good" result with this mic? I'm going to keep trying either way. Thanks
