Roslin Glen, Scotland - a 2004 list (1 Viewer)

This is a list of the birds I have seen in my garden (including birds that have flown through my 'airspace' - e.g. the grey heron passed directly overhead one day so I count it on my garden list! I don't know if others apply stricter rules to their lists!!) My garden overlooks Roslin Glen Country Park in SE Scotland, just south of Edinburgh. My wife and I started to watch birds last winter after moving into the area. The ones marked with an asterisk have been photographed well enough that the bird is recognisable! The ones in blue, at the end, are birds I have seen in the immediate vicinity but not in my garden:

blue tit*, coal tit*, great tit*, long-tailed tit*
blackbird*, song thrush*, mistle thrush*, robin*
chaffinch*, greenfinch*, bullfinch*, goldfinch*, siskin*
crow, rook*, magpie*, jackdaw*
sparrowhawk, kestrel*, buzzard*
woodpigeon*, collared dove*, stock dove*
wren*
dunnock*
blackcap*
starling
swallow*
pheasant
greater spotted woodpecker*

dipper*
yellowhammer*
linnet*
lapwing*
curlew*
mallard*
grey wagtail*
tree sparrow*
grey partridge*
chiffchaff*
treecreeper*
fieldfare*

So, 31 birds in the garden, or close enough to be harpooned (makes me think, if birding is to birdwatching as whaling is to whalewatching you lot should be ashamed of yourselves..............). And a few more just nearby. So if you're in the area, Roslin Glen isn't a bad place to come to see a good variety of birds, though I realise none of these are rare.
