RSPB Frampton Marsh (5 Viewers)

Godwit numbers continue to rise, with at least 300 out there this morning. Couple of spotted redhsank as well. Plus green sandpipers and ruff on the reedbed lagoon, and whimbrel on the scrapes.

Another good day (are there any that aren't?) at RSPB Frampton. A pair of Turtle Dove on the Marsh Farm sea wall/public footpath, 4 different Marsh Harriers, Green Sandpiper, Greenshank, 4 Ruff and a Pectoral Sandpiper, our second of the year

Can you just pop back and make sure that the Pectoral Sandpiper stays until Saturday afternoon! ;) That would make 2 lifers if we manage the Turtle Doves!

Had a great dat there today lots of birds to see most interesting to us was a marsh harrier with a yellow wing tag on its left wing ,well worth a vist :t:

Saturday!

had a disaster Saturday, the plan was to get to Frampton about 2 and have 3-4 hours. We had got past Newark and was heading Boston way, when we realised I had left the Airshow tickets at home! So we had turn around and head back to the other side of Birmingham! Finally got to the reserve about 5:30 after checking in at our digs. So just had a couple of hours. So no Turtle Doves, No Sandpiper, but still had a great time. The Godwits were a treat. Mind you as we were leaving and walking back past the Visitor Centre there was a bloke with 3 lads shouting and screaming, generally messing about! They had gone over the fence and were around the feeders, 2 lads were even over the next fence on the reserve! I gave them short shrift and told them to get out of there. So annoying as we were hoping to see some Yellowhammers around there as we have in the past, but no chance after that!

Highlights from a beautiful evening at Frampton:-

Marsh Harrier x 1
Sparrowhawk x 1
Little Owl x 2

Spoonbill x 1

Green Sandpiper x 4
Common Sandpiper x 1

We found a yellowhammer near the last house before you get to the reserve. It flew into the hedge by the public footpath where you go to see the little owl.

Highlights from today were Spoonbill, 3 Common Sandpipers, 7 Green Sandpipers, Ruff, Grey Plover 2 Yellow-legged Gulls, 2 Mediterranean Gulls (one colour ringed in Germany I think), Hobby, Marsh Harrier, 3 Turtle Doves on the road at the reserve entrance (sorry Tomwbhx) and a reserve first in the form of a Water Shrew. Loads of Black-tailed Godwits around and masses of big gulls on the reedbed for most of the day. Definitely worth a sift through. Had three colour ringed birds (2 Herring and 1 LBB) but they were a little distant and it was a wee bit windy :(

Quiet stroll up the cross bank this evening yielded a pair of Turtle Doves, two Marsh Harrier, a Sparrowhawk, one Corn Bunting, several Whitethroat and Yellowhammer, as well as one Greenshank and one Green Sandpiper on the reservoir.

Even managed to get a half decent photo through my scope for a change!

Oh well that's life and birding for that matter, will try again next year!

Why wait until next year, forget all about the Waddington airshow, its noisy and crowded. Go along to Coningsby instead its only about fifteen or so miles from Frampton and you will have Eurofighters and Typhoons assaulting your ears virtually any day of the week, and it's free. when you have had your fill of noisy aircraft then come along to Frampton and see the professionals (i.e the birds) performing all around you. Much better, don't delay and come back as soon as possible.:t:

Yeah, the Spotted Redshank was showing very well on Middle Scrape this evening.

Had my first two Snipe on the reserve for about six weeks this evening. One flew over the road and dropped into the reeds on the edge of South Scrape as I arrived, and one was feeding on the verge of the Middle Scrape in front of the East Hide about 2045.

Lots of Little Ringed Plover activity on the wet grassland from East Hide. At least five flitting about (possibly seven), as well as two Ringed Plover, one lonely looking Dunlin and two Common Sandpiper. There were also four Green Sandpiper feeding in the straight channel towards the old car-park about 2130.

Other highlights:-

Common Buzzard x 2
Marsh Harrier x 1 (m)
Dark-bellied Brent x 7
Yellow Wagtail x 2
Corn Bunting x 1
Linnet x 6
