Nothing out of the usual round here so far this month. I had just one hornet so far which help. A few photos attached - there are still a few butterflies about.

Just a dusky thorn to add to the year list. However, a burnished brass in mint condition was worth getting up early for.

Jono

Technically not September, but just in case anyone was still wondering, this moth from the end of August was confirmed today by the county recorder, Graham Collins, as the first record of Jersey Mocha for Surrey. B :)

Nice one Billy. Alas no firsts for me. From last night:
Old Lady - 2
Rosy Rustic - 1
Brindled Green - 2
Cypress Pug - 1
Plus the normal fayre.

Also attached is a pic of a Garden Carpet which was at least 2/3 smaller than normal. Does anyone know if the later generations are smaller?

Lovely Red underwing.

The bird hide at our local Mapperley reserve turned out to be a moth refuge with numerous Copper Underwings and the odd Uncertain within the hide and a superb, pristine Red Underwing on the outside....in precisely the same spot we saw one last year.

I had my first batch of Lunar Underwings last night amongst the Large Yellow Underwings and Flounced Rustics (poor haul obviously due to winds).

Last night:
Lunar Underwing - 32
Brindled Green - 2
Knot Grass - 2
A few Copper Underwing, Square Spot Rustic and SSD's.
Barred Sallow - 1
And NFG - Black Rustic

Probably my last NFG for the year and seeing as I am moving house soon, my total in 6 years of trapping in the garden ends at 246 Macros and a few of the more easily identified micros.

Grotty weather here so not much trapping. I've been in Germany and France but only a few opportunities for moth-ing. Feathered Gothic flew through the window - my first (and only) German moth! Back in Brittany a pretty new moth for me in the trap: Oncocera semirubella.

I'm only casual 'moth watcher' (I'm planning to get more serious with it next season), but saw today one cool moth (at least for Latvia) - Eucarta virgo. Can't find it on the Latvian list I have, but since it is little bit outdated than I believe that there must be some records of it as of today - so not a new species. But still - nice looking moth |:d|
