Sparrow hawk raids barn owl (1 Viewer)

Hi everybody, my first post!

A few days ago, a friend and I were camping in a field near cambridge. It was early evening, and we were watching a barn owl hunting in our field. We were lucky enough to see the owl dive down, and we guessed it had been lucky as it stayed down for 30 seconds. Suddenly we saw a hawk flash down, there was a shriek, and the hawk was off, presumably with the owls catch! We reckon it was a sparrow hawk, from its size and the way it came in.

Unusual behaviour?

Great bit of behaviour to witness; wonder if it was a kestrel rather than a sparrowhawk as they more often overlap in habitat and hunting technique?
