Sticky rubber on numerous consumer products, not aimed at specific birding optics companies (1 Viewer)

Which is worse ?.
Producing millions and millions of "throwaway" products ----- or producing smaller quantities of superior products that will last and be used for a much longer period of time.
But I suppose that the younger and more "modern" generation (and some others) , will be unable to understand this , they must always have the "latest and greatest" , and think that newer is always better.
Then there is the "God of Profit" that must be appeased and worshipped - - - not so ?.
And NO , I am not an anti-environmentalist at all.

The handlebars of my electric bike developed stickiness within a couple of years of buying it. Some plastics degrade and become brittle or powdery, but the plastic used for grips of various products seems instead to go sticky with age. I'm not sure what polymer this rubber-like substitute is.

Technological progress has been going on since Cro-Magnon man went from the sharpened stick to the bone and then flint spear point. No doubt there were those older cavemen who moaned that flint spearpoints broke too easily... Nowadays you can choose which era of binocular development you wish to indulge in, leaded glass lenses, all the anti-woke things, you can still get them. Or get binos made in countries (eg the PRC) that don't give a toss for "environmentally friendly" ideologies.

As for the "God of Profit" - I suppose you work for free then?

Certainly it can be done, with all the consequences for our environment... But hey, who cares.... You don't, that's for sure.
Who needs this? Take a good look around and recalibrate. Recycled polyester isn't going to save the world. Like so much else today, it's an expiation gesture for people overcome by guilt for existing.

Exactly. It's always boggled my mind how no one tries to reduce unnecessary production in the first place. (And population only continues to grow...)

Nor am I, quite the opposite. (Nor am I a racist, although saying that isn't sufficient for some people today either.)

"Family Planning" are naughty BAD BAD words to use in certain circles  .

yes, it does seem anathema in the "right" circles, doesn't it? (I do mean right)...

...and if folks feel poorer, that'll reduce unnecessary consumption. Maybe there is something to be thankful to the current inmate of the White House for, after all...

Let's please stick to the topic, gentleman. :)
