Strange Blue Tit behaviour! (1 Viewer)

Hello guys i was hoping somebody would be able to advise me on some strange behaviour i have witnessed from one of our gardens Blue Tits.
Basically they are currently checking out our Sparrow terrace, as Sparrows never use it, and it`s directly under my bedroom window. The strange thing is one of the pair, i suspect it`s the male, is seemingly attempting to get into our house. He lands on our living room window sill and taps the glass with his bill and flutters up and down and scratches at our window. Every day, several times a day this happens. He attempts to push in when the window is slightly open, so because of this we have been keeping it closed. I have heard of Robins attacking reflections of themselves, but never Blue Tits. Could he be doing this or trying to get in? We are concerned about the summer months when our windows are wide open because of this. Any ideas or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

It can most probably see its reflection and thinks it is another BT on its patch.

Maybe you could put a decal on the window to stop this or cover up the bottom of the window just taller than BTs height [inside]so it will not be able to see straight through.

Thank you for replying.

A good idea though the Tit flies up and down so the only way we could stop it looking in is by covering the whole window. We have a Hydrangea bush what he perches on by the window so i will cut it right down, but i`m at a loss really. He doesn`t seem aggressive to his reflection either, if that is why he is doing it.

The first advice by Marmot was good. It didn't work. Don't cover up your windows. I'm sure this will pass.
If he comes in, he comes in, and I'm sure you, or he, will find him a way back out again.
Nature's got a way of solving its own problems.

Observe, watch and learn from this. Maybe put a feeder in the bush nearby to take his mind off it?

But, DON'T spoil your life because of it!

But, do keep posting if you have problems!

I have a blue tit that pecks our patio doors it looks like it is looking for the small spiders that live around the frame

It`s definately not hunting Insects, it`s just trying to get in.

I will put out a fat ball to distract him at the window. I would quite happily send him out again if he flew in, but surely that would cause him stress. Catching him or him flying around our room until he flew out would surely distress him.

It maybe to do with the breeding season. Maybe they are looking for material or invesigating new territory, or maybe with the hormones they become a bit more bolder. A few days ago the Female Chaffinch kept darting about everything everywhere, and even landed on the windowsill of the window I was watching her through. She looked directly at me with just some glass seperating us. Was quite a thrill to see her that close.

So maybe it will pass once he has his young to feed.

hi we have got a great tit thats been doing the same for two months, cant give a reason, you
