Hi Birders

Im new to big scopes. Have a older Celestron 80mm. and wan´t to upgrade. i have got this offer i have postet. Will it work ?
Im not traveling with score or hiking.

Im worried to pay that much money and and 115 not in balance ?
Will a balance bar solve the problem. I can read som older topics, but maby something new is coming.

Or is it better to save monet and get Kowa or the 95mm.

I can't comment on the Gitzos since don't have these and never tested...
Regarding the X115 vs. the X95 or Kowa 99, I can give some suggestions:
  • if money isn't an issue, go for the X115 - only in his class, less CA than the X95 and has more light - important for those doing digiscopy or trying some X derivations, like me... ;);
  • if money is important, the X95 is almost as good as the X115 and have less weight;
  • regarding the Kowas 99, never tested one but read here that suffer from Spherical Aberration (the X115 also has SA...), there is big sample variation within units and seems that a "true" cherry unit never was found until now...

That’s also my setup (well, my tripod is a gt3542 instead) but the ATX115 balances pretty well in the Gitzo Gimbal head. Included plate is long enough and can be mounted forward enough in the scope to have it perfectly balanced.

Regards.

Hi.
Sounds good. So you will not advise me to bye the balance bar?

Nope. The include plate works great. I don’t really see the need for the balance rail. Maybe if you want to digiscope with a big dslr you need it, but just for observation I don’t think so.

Hi again
Now I got the setup. I can it balance ok.
But do you only use the one screw to attach the plate to the scope ?

Pictured here is my 115MM Spotter on a Gitzo 5543 LS with Wimberly MK2 head plus the Swarovski Balancing Rail. You must first get the scope evenly balanced on the Head and if dont properly, you would not have to even touch it every time you aim it where your wanting.... There is many youtube videos out showing how to balance your scope properly. If your going to spend that kind of money, surely that little bit more for the balancing rail will not bother you..13A3C897-7C4D-4E32-8D56-E2AAD351D0E2.jpeg06BE4309-85D0-4AFA-94FC-F1864A716E05.jpeg51517CE3-2106-4EE3-A681-CDF46BE68D95.jpeg582243B9-F30A-4AF8-AFD2-F16149FB789B.jpegBDEF3ACC-86D8-4175-A43F-5A7EE3CBA1E9.jpegF0C3EF94-D88B-4C21-98F6-6CED3AA2F0DF.jpegBDEF3ACC-86D8-4175-A43F-5A7EE3CBA1E9.jpegF0C3EF94-D88B-4C21-98F6-6CED3AA2F0DF.jpegF6A4E202-C216-4964-B915-A2C3C1B7211B.jpegC2FF6616-F2A6-43C6-BC13-C2265921B944.jpeg
