The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims:
Arnault's Tanager Tangara arnaulti Berlioz, 1927 [Presumed hybrid Tangara cayana x T. preciosa]
Dr Charles Arnault (DNF) was a French aviculturist who lived in southern Algeria (1930–1933). The tanager is only known from one aviary specimen and most authorities consider it to be a hybrid.
The Key to Scientific Names
Dr Charles Arnault (fl. 1933) French aviculturalist (Tangara cayana x Tangara preciosa).

Maybe it is time to through some light on his life dates? For sure he still lived in 1938 here. There was a...

Charles Arnault , Conservateur du Musée de CHOLET Gaston Astre , Faculté des Sciences , TOULOUSE

But no idea if he is the same person. More on him here.

I can find:

Victor Charles Arnould (1874-1951)
Birth:June 12 1874 Mostaganem, Algeria
Death:Apr 27 1951 Oran, Algeria

But no evidence he was the man and after all the spelling is different. I doubt the musician and historian is our man either. I doubt the Tanager was being held in captivity in Algeria and suspect that Arnault was only in Algeria breifly. An early paper on herons by a Charles Arnault is from Nantes but then again Arnault is a Brittan name. I suspect that the Charles Arnault living in Ghardaia (which is in northern central Algeria) mentioned in several German ornithological accounts must be some one else. Their is also a missionary of the same name living in Algiers in 1905.

Or could it be him here died around 4 February 1936? Would be him here Henri Ferdinand Charles Arnault (6 August 1868 in Cahors - 1 February 1936). See Léonore.

BORDEAUX.

At least some of his publications:
  • ARNAULT ( Dr C. ) . Le Cratérope fauve ( Crateropus fulvus ) ( Rev. d'hist . nat . appl . , 2 ° partie 18-
  • ANAULT ( Dr C. ) . Les petits Echassiers en captivité
  • ARNAULT ( D Ch . ) .
  • Arnault, C., (1931). Les traquets du Sud-Algérien . La Terre et la vie, 526-538.
  • Arnault, C. 1949. Danse nuptiale de l’Outarde houbara. C. R. séances Soc. Sci. nat. Maroc 15 : 5-9
  • Arnault, C. 1950. Le Pic mar au Maroc (Dendrocopos medius). L’Oiseau et la R.F.O. 20 : 274.
With this I would exclude the préfet honoraire de la Gironde
Or here
I think in 1918 here he lived in Nogent-sur-Marne. Confirmed by here or here

According to filae it could be that he is born at least Département Val-de-Marne and probably died in Paris. Unfortunatelly not good to read here but something like:

Has anyone access to one or both of this publications? Maybe a hint where he lived at that time?

His death was announced in C. R. Séances Soc. Sci. Nat.

This is a multi-volume file (grouping volumes 16-19), so the year cannot be determined directly from the above quote alone, but :
SOCIÉTÉ DES SCIENCES NATURELLES DU MAROC
(Comptes-rendus des séances mensuelles : 1953, n°2)
  • Google Books also has the same text in another file, which groups volumes 19-23 (see this -- no snippet shows the text in this second file, but it is clearly there), which in turn implies the note must have been in vol. 19; they date the file with vol. 16-19 to 1950 and that with vol. 19-23 to 1953, which presumably represents the dates of publication of the first included volume of each file; also, as the journal started being published in 1935 (see WorldCat), volume 19 would indeed be expected to have appeared in 1953.

Thus it seems he died in Rabat, Morocco, on 28 Jan 1953.

Am I correct we do not have his birth? He was a doctor of medicine here

Maybe with his MD thesis any progress?

Notes:
  • In his birth record, he was given as "Charles Louis Paul" in the margin, but as "Charles Paul Louis" in the text; I initially gave him as "Charles Louis Paul" but, as he was "Charles Paul Louis" in his two marriage records as well, the latter should presumably be treated as the correct version. I have edited post #12 accordingly.
  • In his second marriage record, he was given as an industrialist in addition to a doctor; in the 1926 census, he was only given as an industrialist.
