Going to try again to do a CYL for Tyne and Wear.But not going to go mental as this will be a busy year for me what with my first child due in July(i know many people are in the same boat) and work expected to be busy(self employed means dont work, dont get paid)But so far after 2 very short trips out (less than 3 hours birding in total) im up to a staggering 46 (o)<

Always amazing how many birds can be seen locally Mark. Keep it going. Jack Snipe is on my wish list. I have never seen one. Visited Titchwell last year to be told everyone had been watching a Jack Snipe all morning. I was taken round to see it and yes, it had disappeared.

One or two J.Snipes have been seen regularly in the last couple of weeks on the South shields Leas.Flushed mine from "large mound" directly west of Trow quarry(this is next to a small road taking you to a isolated large pub).The snipe was flushed from long grass and seen briefly in flight.Reckon its worth a try but views might not be brill

Another attempt to see Snow buntings/"white winged gulls" in the South Shields area again proved fruitless and didnt add much to my meagre year list(mental note must get to some more varied habitats)

Finally mananaged to get out again but still only for a few hours(so far less than 10 hours in total for this year!),but dispite this had a good day with plenty of year ticks caught up with...some which were long over due.

Very little on the pond due to it being almost completely frozen over.No sign of reported Green winged teal (which wouldve been a county tick for me)on either pond or river.

26/02 NORTH SHIELDS FISH QUAY 11.30
93.Iceland Gull 1 (1st winter, nice to finally see after repeatedly
dipping on the scarce gulls)

(newly reported in the county for the year Red legged partridge at Burdon moor brings total up to 143)
Turns out Burdon is just out of the county of Tyne and wear so R.L.Partridge will have to come of for now total county year list 142. :brains:

(Sand martin at the mouth of the Tyne is the county's first true summer migrant of the year and brings the CYL total up to 146)

(Puffin off Whitburn Sat/Sun brings the county YL UP TO 147.Credit must go to birders south of the Tyne with the South Tyneside list already up to 133 and Gateshead folk on a respectable 106 :clap: Not saying us in the North Tyne areas are'nt LSB has a great site which is regularly updated,but little comes from the rest of Northern Tyne and wear.I suppose this gets over shadowed by excellent areas such as Druridge bay :h?: )

Dont know why ive been putting off this visit for ages probably cos ive never been here before and thought the bird wouldnt linger.But linger it did so managed to catch up with ...
