As promised, a few stats.

In 13/26 years we have totals of <80, including four of the last five years.

On the plus side, Common Scoter was a new species (#130) for the autumn all-dayer.

Of the scarcer, in an autumn all-dayer context, species seen yesterday:
Shelduck - 3rd ever & first since 2019
Ruff - 7th & 2021
Dunlin - 12th & 2017
Greenshank - 9th & 2023
Yellow-legged Gull
- 4th & 2020.
Black Tern - 3rd & 2011
Red Kite - 2nd & 2020
Nuthatch - 11th & 2022
Wheatear - 6th & 2020

Conversely, yesterday was:
The first time in 26 years we hadn't recorded a Chaffinch
The second time not recording Grey Wagtail (the first was last year)
The fourth time not recording Lesser Whitethroat & Song Thrush

Also, other perceived 'expected' species not seen yesterday:
Wigeon - seen in 9/26 years
Pochard - 7/26
Swift - 14/26
Feral Pigeon - 19/26 (absent in 6 of the last 8 years)
Garden Warbler - 6/26
Coal Tit - 10/26
Skylark - 4/26 (!!)
Meadow Pipit - 16/26 (absent in 4 of the last 5 years)

So, all the above suggests this was an average year and that our highest totals of 89 (2015), 87 (2021), 86 (2010) & 85 (2014) were punching some way above expectation.

Yesterday's highlights from the Moors.

Ringed Plover ( 3 flew through after heavy rain), Lapwing (c40), Little Egret (5), Hobby (2 juvs), Kestrel, Sparrowhawk, Shelduck (2 juvs), Teal (c40), Gadwall (14), Shoveler (21), Swallow (4), House Martin (c40), Little Grebe (8), Reed Warbler, Cetti's Warbler (2) + Otter (2).
