The only ones I know of are the 44 mm Kowa Genesis.I wish manufacturers threaded the inside of the barrels in front of the objectives so we could use screw-in lens shades on our binoculars.
Alas, they do not.

I have found thin neoprene sheet online before. Somewhere around 2mm thickness sounds about right to me for birding sized bins. I would cut strips of about 1-1 1/2" x the length that when closed would form the circumference of the bin's barrels, plus a bit for overlap. Cement the overlap to create a circle just a bit smaller than the barrels and when set stretch over the objective's barrels. Black Shoe Goo (brand name) would work I'm sure. Black silicone adhesive as well, no doubt.I like the dew shields but have not found any online. Where might someone find these? Glare is one of my pet peeves with binos and several otherwise nice ones have gone down the road because of it.
If you think it's worth it, it is very easy to make something yourself that you just shift onto the barrels.I wish manufacturers threaded the inside of the barrels in front of the objectives so we could use screw-in lens shades on our binoculars.

I have been playing in my head and thinking about seeing what I can cobble up.If you think it's worth it, it is very easy to make something yourself that you just shift onto the barrels.

Gijs,b-lilja, post 22,
I was shocked by your experiences, since whatever I have tried, I have not found any glare in the NL pure and I have used it a lot under a range of circumstances some of which should be ideal to cause glare, but they did not.

That only goes on for a while, then they start burning helium. (not that it makes any significant difference to binocular users)Clearly who ever decided to burn giga-trillions of tons of hydrogen in this corner of our galaxy just has no consideration.
I agree. The trouble with glare comparisons - is different people have different expectations, live at different latitudes and even have different attitudes.
But theres always some glare available if you look for it![]()
You've made me curious: what's the connection of the above with the topic of this thread?Clearly who ever decided to burn giga-trillions of tons of hydrogen in this corner of our galaxy just has no consideration.
I think he is referring to the sun, this being the ultimate source of most glare.I agree.

The Canon 10x42IS L also has them. The only ones I know of are the 44 mm Kowa Genesis.

Sunshine the cause of all binocular troubles. Bigger than Zeiss, Swarovski, Nikon, and Leica. Available to cause consternation in all financial brackets.I agree.

Flare, that is the type of glare produced by viewing close to the sun or other glare producing situations (like peripheral or crescent glare) isn’t really the problem, IMO, at least not for me.
Troublesome is veiling glare, often produced in benign lighting and often not noticed until a better specimen is at hand for comparison. Here we see dramatic differences in ability, regardless of cost and the ability to control this veiling glare is extremely important in maintaining contrast and ability to determine detail recognition.
My best bins control veiling glare very well, seemingly better than some of the latest and greatest...and more costly!
Give the Pures to me I don't mind. Honest! I'll take that glare hit for the team.I was shocked by the degree of glare in the 8x42 Pure's, even away from the sun. And for me a fatal flaw in the 8x32 ELs.
