I have never owned a pocket binocular before, but I just bought a used set of Noctivids and was trying to think of a complimentary pair to buy. I bought these because the size would be great for my 10 year old daughter who likes to go in birding hikes with me, and I also do a lot of canoe trips here in Ontario Canada and I am always looking for ways to pack lighter!
I picked up the curio and justified it because I was going to buy the noctivid new but found a good used one and could afford to buy the curio with the money saved (this is how I justified it to my wife anyways lol).
I knew I was going to be happy with the size regardless so I wasn’t expecting much from them.
These things are beautifully made/designed… I got the anthracite ones because I liked the more classic look, they look great. Rubber/metal fusion is nice, eye cups are perfect for me, the focus knob is very smooth.
Ok the most important thing. The IMAGE. Has anyone else looked through these and considered selling their x42’s? I understand they are different weapons for different situations but I am blown away by what I saw through those little things. Image is extremely sharp, great colours, immersive field of view, no major rolling ball effect (if you’re bothered by that, which I happen to be). My brother laughed at the size of the. when I showed him last weekend - he picked them up while raising both pinky fingers like he’s holding a China teacup but when he looked through he said “oh wow!”.
My only gripes are exactly what I have seen posted here, I wish there was a rain guard that could sit on it without being fully folded, and the placement of the strap attachement makes it sit slightly angled against you rather than straight up and down, but those don’t bother me too much, obviously since I am taking the time to write to complete strangers how much I love these.
Anyone looking for a great compact bin, especially to compliment a full size binocular, I recommend trying these babies out !
