Agree its a great bird. If the observer wanted to they could have put the site out, as I see it by not doing so they would probably not appreciate birders peering into gardens. And back to my original post pointless unless there is some one-upmanship going on in the area?

Regards

John

Given the tendency of wintering phylloscs to frequent waterways there must be a good chance that its more likely to be seen along the towpath than in any garden?

Think it's a case of damned if you do & damned if you don't.
If it was completely suppressed I'm sure the finder would not live it down. Frustrating as it is I feel the finder knows the birding scene only too well & feels the need to put news out but does not want the ensuing clamour around his/her house.
Been told this is genuine and no doubt further news will be forthcoming.
Can only sympathise with those who still need Dusky Warbler for the region or even a lifer but until all the info is revealed we shall just have to sit tight.

Hughie.

Yes always a tricky situation, been there myself for a much rarer bird. Usually eventually sorts itself out in the end. Just out of interest do any Staffs birders do VC lists? And what Vice-county was the other West Mids bird in?

Regards

John

Let's face it if there's any Vice to be found it will be in Staffs. Especially on the Chase. Re Stan Collymore & friends.

I believe the Dusky Warbler at Marsh Lane would come under old Warwickshire.

Hughie.

Yes Marsh Lane def VC38 I was thinking of the Sheepwash bird and think thats Staffordshire too.

Never To Old To Learn

Sutton Park NNR : Long-tailed Duck

Hi All

The Long-tailed Duck was showing very well this afternoon, still at the eastern end of Powell's Pool and close in to the Miller & Carters Steak House car park ... 'close' as in just 25 metres away at times !

It appeared to be feeding well and will hopefully stay around for those hoping to see it over the weekend.

Cheers
Andy R.

Three more digiscoped from yesterday, again showing on some the pink on the bill mentioned by Matt Griffiths earlier, confirming this is a male LTD.
Cheers

Managed to see the Long Tailed Duck on Saturday around lunch time, it seemed to stay in the middle of the lake just the other side of the pub looking from the dam. Managed to grab a few record shots though which made the trip worth while.

Tim.

Quick hour off work to see The LT. Bit of a distance out but showing well.

Quick snap record shot.
