I photographed these birds on a salt or brackish mudflat on 12/23 in San Diego. They may not all be the same bird, but I'm pretty certain that they are all the same species. Are they western sandpipers sporting their new winter finery?
Looks like Willet. Western sandpiper is a small thing with a short dark bill that often has a slight droop near the tip (compared with the long, thick, prominent bill your bird has)
