White-cheeked Tern (1 Viewer)

White-cheeked Tern Sterna repressa

I understand some work is going on for this species and others closely linked - does anybody know how far it has got.

*Taxonomic Notes:* The BirdLife Taxonomic Working Group is aware
that phylogenetic analyses have been published which have proposed
generic rearrangements which may affect this species, but prefers
to wait until work by other taxonomists reveals how these changes
affect the entire groups involved.

BirdLife International seems to have included that statement within its database for all members of Sterna.

I assume this refers to the split of Gelochelidon, Hydroprogne, Thalasseus, Sternula & Onychoprion from Sterna, which has already been quite widely adopted elsewhere.

However, even under the revised arrangement, repressa is retained within Sterna (sensu stricto).
