Window Feeder (2 Viewers)

I hope it works for you,was watching it today and there were some tits fluttering around and investigating it but not eating, hopfully they will get used to it and it will prove succesfull

Well the new window feeder arrived today. The real wood lid looks much better than my old plastic one. It will be a couple of days due to work before it's on the window but if it works i may get a couple more. :t::t:

Well so far it is working, have seen a couple of blue tits investigating it and saw a coal tit eating from it :t:
When i get a day off at the weekend i am gona sit in view of the window and see if i can get any pics, the window it is on is on the landing, not the greatest plae to sit and watch birds but that is where the blue tits always are

When I was growing up I had a suction cup style window feeder and had a lot of success with it, many visits from tits in particular. There are also larger window feeders which actually sit in the window (you have your window open and a feeding box sits inside the window, kind of like an air conditioning unit). These feeding boxes protrude into your house and are generally made of see through plastic. They are a great way to get very very close to birds such as cardinals, chickadees, and jays.

Those boxes sound great if you live somewhere that it is not permantly wet and windy lol

Well the "Window Feeder" is place on my french windows which also look out over the garden feeders. Time to just sit back and watch. I will post about the first species that i see using it...........hope it's not too long. ;)

You wont regret it,am loving watching the tits on mine, have just hung a couple of fat balls from the wall as well for them, there more food than window now lol
Just keep trying to get a decent pic that is not blurred B :)

I have a male Blackbird, Blue and Coal Tits, Sparrows and Starlings (when they are around) use the window feeder. I have also had a Robin use it and two years ago a Wren fed her youngsters on mealworms that I put in it for young birds but never expected a Wren, I was thrilled to bits.

I put very fine chopped up peanuts, suet pellets and mealworms in the feeder. I use one of the all plastic ones and the first dropped to the ground with the weight of Starlings on it one day. There is a loud thump when the Blackbird arrives and leaves but he has not dislodged it yet.

One snag, I have slugs visiting it at night, horrible long grey things, they leave trails and bits of peanuts stuck on the glass, they eat the nuts but not the brown skins.

My photographs always come out blurred, any tips for taking photos through glass would be appreciated.

Luckily mine is on a upstair window,so would be very surprised if any slugs gors up there lol

Sorry Toby, the slugs live in a climbing hydrangea luckily it has not reached beyond the kitchen extension. I wouldn't put a window feeder that high up it would be sure to fall down. LOL.

I used to have the window feeder that RSPB sell on the kitchen window at my old house, was only used by starlings but it was brilliant seeing their glossy petrol sheen close up! I bought one made by Gardman today for £2.99 going to put it up soon and see what I can attract as only ever seen Blue Tit in the garden of my new house despite living in a great area for birds.

Another thing with slugs they crawl across the window leaving a trail of slim and the window has to be washed. I didn't realise they were after the window feeder.

I have three and love them. When I purchased them from Wild Birds Unlimited the sales person advised me to put a very very small amount of oil on each of the suction cups before placing the feeders on the windows. She even suggested simply rubbing the suction cups on the oiliest part of your face.. I put a dab of cooking oil on my finger and ever so lightly rubbed a bit on each cup. I have had two squirrels at a time on the feeders and they don't budge.

Chuck :)

Good tip that, will remember that for future times:t:

Isn't it a nice sound in the room where the feeder is when you hear the little hammering from a Blue Tit pecking a sunflower heart. I think the back of the feeder is a bit dirty so the birds can't see us.

At last managed to get a photo of a little visitor who does all the hammering. As soon as the food on the bird table gets eaten, then they come to the window feeder, I'm glad I put it back up.
