Hello,

I can never tell lesser from greater yellowlegs. Anyone with an opinion on these 2 different birds? Both lesser?

Thanks.

Hello birdman.

Judging image 2 which is clearer and more obvious one of the two yellowleg species I´d say it´s a Greater based only on bill lenght and shape of it. the bill doe´s seem to be longer than the head - measured at eye level - and slightly uppturned. Bill of Lesser approx. as long as the head and straighter.
When the two Yellowlegs are seen together size difference is quite obvious!

Take a look here and notice the differences in size, pattern and bill colour of the two:

Jan - they're both different birds! I think no.1 is Greater.

From the apparent, rather stout, longish and slightly upturned bill I would say that both birds are Greater Yellowlegs. In agreement with the previous posts.

I know they are both different birds as birdman said so - I just played safe on the one in pic. 1 although Greater was a first alternative due to jizz and bill size.
