Yorkshire Birding (54 Viewers)

Seen my first Swift and cuckoo today and got my head sun burnt, is this a sign that summer has arrived. Will the Wryneck still be around Flamborough tomorrow?

Bolton abbey

Made an impromptu decision to head to Bolton Abbey yesterday... didn't arrive until well after the "meet up" had departed. Walked from the abbey to Barden Bridge and back. On the way out I tried to keep running totals: 22 Pied Fly, 6 Redstart, 2 Wood Warbler, 1 Tree Pipit by Barden Bridge, 2 Dipper, 3 Common Sand, 1 Garden Warbler, 3 Mandarin. As a relative newcomer to Yorks I find the richness of the birdlife in the Bolton Abbey area really quite remarkable!

Shame we couldn't meet up Jonathan. Your total of 22 Pied Flys is impressive and the Tripit is one we missed out on. The later start obviously paid off.

My impression from the meet was that the overnight frost had led to many birds having a lie-in. Perhaps they knew it was a bank holiday Sunday ;) The plants certainly didn't seem impressed. Lots of droopy leaves suggesting reduced turgor pressure.

Finally caught up with the atlas flycatcher at south landing. Showing nicely across the ravine from the carpark. A very pale Chiffchaff also present with a normal song made it abietinus I guess.

Decided to take the dog for a walk around Timble this afternoon. Plenty of Curlew, Lapwing, Mipits & Redpolls. Also had a Kestrel & a Cuckoo on the telegraph wires.

Damn it. I just wiped the memory card from my camera. Thought 'erase all frames' referred to the video and not the stills. Doh!

No great loss as the important pictures were downloaded previously. Strangely enough the subject of data recovery programs came up on Sunday. Has anyone got a link? Not too fussed but I think I managed a half-decent shot of Nuthatch that I'd like to get back.

Ken, try Pandora Recovery, that's the one I got to try & recover the SD card I was talking about on Sunday. It's supposed to have a good reputation when it's not an issue with a hardware fault.

Don't have a link to hand as I'm on my work computer at the moment.

Many thanks Richard, the name was sufficient for a search. I'll give it a go when I get a card reader. Nearly bought one last week in Poundland. Didn't think I needed one at the time.

Common Sandpiper at Tophill Low today. Pics of Grasshopper Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Barn Owl, Yellow Wagtail & description of alarm call of Grasshopper Warbler (which I'd never heard before) on the blog: www.eybirdwatching.blogspot.com

Planning a trip to Norfolk later on this month and as some are coming from far afield to join me, I want to know where we could park up a car all day as cheaply (preferably free) and as safely as possible. Looked at Ferrybridge services but that costs, so anywhere not too far from there that would fit the bill?

Why not park at Xscape free parking and just off the M62.
