Just a quick plug for InFocus at Denby Dale as they've been brilliant today...

At the weekend I had two mishaps - a leg fell off my tripod for no apparent reason, breaking the thread when it hit the ground, and due to a bad habit I got into of carrying my tripod attached to my scope as it was sling over my shoulder (don't do it, kids) the thread on the bottom of my scope gave way and I couldn't reattach it to the tripod.

I had a trip to InFocus this morning, as a bit of a long-shot as I was expecting them to just tell me to pack them off to the manufacturers for repair. Instead they found me a spare leg off an old tripod they had and fitted it, and gave me an adaptor for the larger hole in my scope, meaning I've got a quick fix until a time I'm happier to send it off to Opticron for a proper repair. And best of all they didn't charge me anything for doing this! And they didn't lecture me too much for carrying my scope around like an idiot ;)

Always great to see such good customer service as this.

Couldn't agree more Pete. I've dealt with Dave (iirc) a couple of times and he's been extremely helpful. He fixed what I thought was going to be an expensive accident, when my scope started rattling after it fell over, in no time at all. Also, there was absolutely no pressure to spend my budget when choosing new bins and ended up saving £150 on the pair I felt comfortable with.

Top stuff

I attended two InFocus days at North Cave Wetlands early 2012 - first to have a look 2nd with nearly a decision, before buying my first ever scope. The guy I saw (sorry didn't get his name) was extremely helpful and understanding of my lack of knowledge / inexperience. He was patient and informative and I didn't feel under pressure to buy at all. Scope has since given a huge improvement to my enjoyment of birding.

Hobby over M62 (Brighouse junction)

Having not seen a Hobby ever up until a few weeks ago, like buses another comes along soon after!

As I was trundling along the M62 over the Brighouse junction today one was swooping around actually getting quite close to the traffic.

Made a nice change from woodpigeons and gulls!

Well done that man. Still need hobby for County this year.

If there were to be such a thing as an anti-magnet I could make millions out of the patent. Luckily I am at home watching cricket today so there's every chance of seeing some raptors

re Hobby - Brighouse

Hi - the Hobby was about 10.30am or thereabouts, very typical swooping behaviour over flyover and trees below, it was on the side with the road going towards Cooper Bridge Road.

The other one I saw was the one down at Swillington Ings, but this was a much better view.

Hope this helps
Michael

What time was the hobby seen? I work in brighouse so will keep an eye out still need for the year
