Thanks, already had decided to give it a go but came back via fairburn where Temminck's stint was very showy infront of lin dyke hide with a snipe, several dunlin and ringed plover.
Couldn't find black tern which had been reported in the village bay but got a spotted flycatcher from the riverbank trail

The Temminck's was showing well from Lin Dike hide until mid afternoon. By 5 it had flown a little further away (on the left hand side of Spoonbill Flash as you look out from Lin Dike hide), but still around... It was loosely associating with 2 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plover and a juv LR Plover...

Just wondering if the Monty at Blacktofts is still coming into roost on an evening. mentions on rspb sightings page is a bit vague - just mentioning some daytime sightings over the last few days. Myself and a packed hide missed out a week ago so just thinking over a second trip. Cheers.

ack wish i'd have looked at birdforum at the weekend hadnt realised a temmincks was about! Would have gone after work today, didnt see any reports on birdnet. Hope it sticks around til tomorrow. Are the Garganey still about too?

Incredible sight at Shaw Cross (between Harrogate and Harewood) this morning. The farmer was cutting hay and there was at least 25 red kites soaring around that one field. I say at least 25, I think there was more but so hard to count when they are swirling around. I dont know what they were swooping down to the ground for. At first I thought it was a feeding station.

Road was definitely open yesterday, but had been closed on Saturday. Apparently, likely to be closed after every 7+ metre high tide. If you check size of high tide before going it should help. Really large high tides may be over now until next month.
Spurn at this time of year is usually at its best after an easterly, or a north-easterly

Was there yesterday, didnt go down the point but I think the road is open but in really poor condition with rocks all over the place, so I think you might get back with a damaged motor!
Easterlies or north easterlies are pretty essential for good numbers of migrants in from the continent, otherwise bird numbers will be pretty low. The winds are changing tomorrow so I think there will be a clear out of birds by the weekend, and see what the weather will bring next week

I went down the point yesterday & there were no rocks on the road, just a bit of sand in places. Loads of day trippers were making the journey by 11.30. The road can't have been that bad, as my car passed its MOT today 1st time.

I plan to go to Spurn on Saturday. Appears to be lots of little birds going through. Where are the best places to see them? I do have some firsts I would love to see ie Barred Warblers, Honey Buzzards, L T Skuas, Pom Skuas, Icterine warblers. Which day in the next 7 days is likely to be best weather wise ie nice and sunny? Saturday does appear good. Also when do the peak number of Warblers, Chats, Yellow Wagtails passing along the east coast go through/over?

"Nice and sunny" isn't always the best weather, I'm afraid - good for daytrippers, not for birders. Easterly winds, preferably with a bit of drizzle or mist early on, are your best bet for rarities, unfortunately those are now behind us and westerlies are forecast for the next week or so. Things may still turn up though, and some of the stuff there now may well linger, so it's worth a trip anyway, just don't expect the numbers and amount of rarities that were reported over the previous weekend or you may end up disappointed. And there should still be more common migrants around to keep you entertained at least.
Keep your eyes open on the Spurn Bird Observatory website for the latest sightings, and see the map on there for where they mean by the locations. The Triangle (the area between the car park at Kilnsea, the Crown and Anchor pub and The Warren) is one of the best for checking for grounded migrants, as is any of the clumps of bushes towards the point. As for birds such as skuas just point yourself out to sea, but these will often be distant birds that take some practice to ID.
It's usually a good day out whatever, so enjoy it and good luck - and if you come across a birder with a radio they're the ones to ask if anything's about!
The whole Spurn area is good. You are best getting a map at the Warren which shows some of the regular places, such as Crown & Anchor car park, Beacon Lane, Sammy's Point, Triangle. If you stick around the Warren you'll pick up from people what's been seen, and may be see some ringed birds on release, but I think Spurn charge now :eek!: I think you need to decide between small stuff or a sea-watch. I wouldn't try and do both. Personally I'd stick to small stuff. Get yourself on a Flamborough boat trip for skuas.
It's all weather dependent. You don't really want nice and sunny unless it's the day after it's been low cloud and drizzle. Just pick a day after there's been an easterly blow the night before - any direction from the east. Stuff needs to be grounded - clear nights and nice and sunny and the birds keep going. Birds will be migrating from now until November. It can all move out and go quiet, but an easterly blow and it will be alive again. September will produce most, but there's good stuff in October, and even in November there's late stuff such as Dusky Warbler, Firecrest. Finally decide what you want and stick with it unless it really does get too tempting with news from elsewhere at Spurn. Don't do the headless chicken bit and end up missing everything. If there's a really elusive Barred Warbler, and you need it, stick it out. There's a danger at Spurn that you are always chasing old news and getting to birds too late, only to find the Barred has now shown five minutes after your two hour vigil. It always sounds better on the news services than in reality. No-one is getting everything. There's room to walk and find your own stuff. Magic place once you get into it.
