Identification
Male 23-25 cm
- Dark cinnamon brown
- Black bill and iris
Female 18-19cm
- Brown back
- Brownish-white underparts
The male Brown Songlark is the only Australian bird with fawn crown contrasted with sooty-brown face and breast.
Distribution
Australia (escept most north and east coast regions): found in New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, Western Australia
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Formerly placed in genus Cincloramphus by Gill and Donsker.
Habitat
Pastureland and open grassy scrubland.
Behaviour
Flight
Legs dangle in flight.
Diet
The diet includes insects and seeds.
Breeding
The nests is a small depression in the ground; the female incubates the eggs and rears the young.
