Distribution
Southern South America : found in Ecuador, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Argentina and the Falkland Islands.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1], which is sometimes placed in genus Chroicocephalus.
Habitat
Humid forest, coast, rivers, lakes and marshes.
Behaviour
Breeding
They nest in a hollow lined with vegetation. The clutch consists of 2 to 4 eggs.
Diet
The diet includes marine invertebrates and small fish.
