    Costa Rica Hummingbirds, February

Hummingbirds are so amazing. I thought I knew these at the time, but now I cannot ID them! The colours change with the light etc. so do not always look the same as the field guides. Any help appreciated.

    Chat at Gronant, North Wales

Cannot decide if this is a juvenile Stonechat or Whinchat! Supercilium looks quite prominent, but tail does not look right for a Whinchat.

Thank you for your thoughts, Val35. Unfortunately I did not make a note of any calls, and cannot remember anything now. So many new birds to identify!

Black Cockatoo, Perth WA, Spetember 2015

I saw a small group of white-tailed black cockatoos in Perth. Bibra Lake area on 20th September 2015. Cannot decide if they are Carnaby's or Baudin's. Both species seem to have black bills and pink around the eye in males from what I have read. Any comments welcome.

    Richmond Bank, River Mersey

Hi Jonathan, Thank you for your helpful comments and advice. I had heard that weekends can be less productive, but unfortunately it is not easy for me to get there mid-week - work gets in the way! If the tide is right out at Richmond Bank, will the gulls be dispersed further (too far) away...

    Richmond Bank, River Mersey

I have seen from numerous bird reports that Richmond Bank near Warrington on the River Mersey is a good site for white winged gulls, especially at this time of year. I have access details to the site. But please can anyone advise if there is an optimum state of the tide to visit? I wouldn't want...

    Vacation Advice Requested

Wow! Thanks to everyone who has taken time to send in their recommendations. This certainly gives me plenty of ideas to look into in more detail. Should keep us going for a few years too! South Africa, Mexico and the Andes all sound of particular interest, but now I need to start searching the...

    Vacation Advice Requested

I am seeking readers' advice on holiday destinations where good birding should be possible, combined with some non-birding activities to keep the wife happy! The key factor is that I am married to a school teacher, and so we are restricted to the period from mid July to the end of August for our...

    WirralRover

Leasowe, New Brighton, Hilbre should all stand a good chance with the predicted westerlies. Good luck. And thank you to everyone for the warm welcomes.

    WirralRover

I would describe myself as a keen amateur rather than a professional birdwatcher. Work committments prevent me spending as much time as I would like in the field, but I still get great enjoyment when I do have the chance to dust the bins off. Wirral and the immediate surrounds have a wondedful...
