Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

Just dropped by to say congrats! I was reading BBC Wildlife and found out that 3 very familiar artists had done quite well in Wildlife Artist of the Year -contest. :) Those grebe sketches are pure genius. And the "duck".

Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

There'd be so much to comment that I'll just say this: I've had a long spell of "uncreativeness" going on. Going through the last couple of pages made me want to go out there, take my scope, pencils and scetchbook, and go draw birds for a couple of hours. And I haven't felt like this in a long...

Wow... I've been away for too long - again. Stunning. Love the fieldfares and the marsh harrier with grebes (the last one is especially an interesting situation, haven't had a chance to see THESE two species together). Elina

Stonechat. Love it. Wonderful colors, beautiful composition. And a chat, I love chats. And on stopping smoking: You can do it! Elina

Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

Half a sleep, but gotta say, the chiffchaff was anothere "that's so right!" painting - it was a joy to find the bird there - beautiful and great composition. Herring Gs and the cormorant remind me of Ennion, yet in a derryish way. And the topmost post, splendid study of forms in the Widgeons...

The seal --- ummm, I mean the Iceland gull is brilliant! And so cute! And once again your creativity shines. The BW illustrations are wonderful as well, especially liked the crow for some reason. Elina

Ok now there they are... The ravens... I'm swept away or something, it's so good. I don't know what else to say, it's too good. I can feel the wind, the ravens are really moving to the landscape, the colors... Elina

Nick, you're a genius when it comes to painting birds in many ways, but there's something about your wallcreepers that makes them stand out to me among your work. They just - ah, lost for words - they blow me off my feet EVERY SINGLE TIME. Maybe it's partly due to the fact that I really love...

How did you manage to maintain the liveliness of sketches and still make them look like finished paintings? Brilliant! Especially love the Coypus one, the composition and the feel of flowing among the waves swimming, great! Elina

Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

First of all: I'm totally IN LOVE with that chat! I guess I do have a soft spot for all sorts of chats, but still that is a uniquely lovely painting (and a very chatty chat that is)! And tuftie and pintails... That's so perfect - and the look on the tuftie's face is priceless! Perfect beginning...

Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

Ooooh nuthatchy! My first reaction was: where's the bird. Then I started to "see" the bird in many places. And finally, I found the bird and was super excited! How many times do you get to go birdwatching in a painting? A lovely, lovely painting that gives the viewer the joy of finding a very...

Ooooh brilliant! Purple sandpaper is definitely a special one, pretty bird ant the texture of the sandpaper gives a new dimension to the painting. The garganey and the tree sparow are beautifully delicate, and I really enjoy the clear forms shovelers and the mallard+sting+sand. Inspired once...

I'm quite honestly totally in love with your wallcreepers. Each and every one I've seen - wow just doesn't describe the feeling. From these two - the first one is quite interesting with the patterns - creative, very creative. And the second... I think I'm gonna have to take another look just in...

Welcome to Nick's dining room table.

Mr. Derry - if I may say so, wow! My jaw dropped 3 times. Ok, four, if you count the redstart as 2. Serin is so cute yet with great strong atmosphere. Hoopoe - less is more! Beutifully simple. Redstart: I'll just keep on staring at it for a while longer. It's so watchable. Elina

So around 5 different mediums in that one. Well, it definitely dropped me down from my chair, beautiful, very very beutiful. Gotta second Mike's reference to Ennion. Elina

I was feeling extreamely blue yesterday evening. Popped in here... and left smiling. The Redstart is timply marvelous - what colors, what simple brush work! Black RS - great character. Woodpecker - had to check that one first, wow! Long-tails - *SMILE* cute and love the colors. Wood sands (if ID...

Ooooh! (Once more.) Out of these, my fave must be that last whinchat... I do have a soft spot for that species and that's such a charming sketch. I'll second what Ed said about the first one. Elina

I think the changes are good, though I cannot put my finger on what's been changed. But the picture is now even more intense. I just love this painting, it's FABULOUS! The detail on the pere - my jaw dropped when I opened the thumbnail to a big picture. Elina
