Hope I'm putting this in the right section, but going to Malta next week and although I know I've missed the migration can anyone point me in the right direction (other than south), as to where some good watching areas might be.

Regards.

Google 'BirdLife Malta' and ask through them - you'll be made welcome!

Malta has very few resident birds compared to similar Mediterranean islands due to the problem of illegal hunting, (no regularly breeding raptors for example!). Birdlife Malta does have a couple of nature reserves in the north of the island, which are a bit of a haven for wildlife. Information on visiting these sites can be found here.
Outside of the reserves, coastal areas are best, evening scanning from pretty much any watchpoint overlooking the sea should produce Scopoli's and Yelkouan Shearwaters returning to their nest burrows, and Blue Rock Thrush are fairly common on most cliffs.

While you are out there, I would strongly recommend joining Birdlife Malta, or making a donation to them. They are putting a tremendous effort into making Malta a better place for birds, and need all the help they can get.
