Acorns in Bird Feeders (1 Viewer)

I am new to birding. I have about 10 feeders. My favorites are the Blue jays. I got a peanut feeder and I have about 4 jays that will clean me out of 3 pounds of peanuts in about a day. Can I use acorns in the feeders as filler with the peanuts. I know they love acorns but will they eat them out of a feeder?

Good question, but I'm thinking it might work. Let me know if it does cause they are expensive dudes to keep feeding ;)

Hi there and a warm welcome to you from those of us on staff here at BirdForum :t:

Don't know from experience but I don't see why not. But I bet they won't touch the acorns until they've finished the peanuts. In my neighborhood, scrub-jays spend all day harvesting acorns at this time of the year but as soon as I throw out some peanuts they come flocking and don't go back to the oak trees until all the peanuts are gone.
