Might be a kestrel (1 Viewer)

We spotted this one would you believe in Las Vegas, Tenerife, circling and gliding above us, it had a noticably black last third of its tail, rufous back and pale belly with a noticably white section above its tail which seemed to go around its lower body.

dark wingtips contrasting with brownish back makes this a kestrel.

Hi Tom I'm afraid this is the only picture I managed to take but as I said the Reddy/brown back caught against the sun stood out and the white near the base of the tail was also prominent.

Definitely a kestrel. The spotted sides, reddish wing with dark primaries, and gray-blue back all add up to kestrel.

I can not see how this can be a positive ID of Kestrel. The colours are far too washed out as far as I can see to be of any use.

Washed out maybe - but the black-tipped brown wings are obvious as is the greyish rump.....Kes for sure
